Jammu and Kashmir is regionally divided into three parts namely Kashmir, Jammu & Ladakh.The state consists of many valleys like Tawi Valley, Chenab Valley, Sind Valley Lidder Valley, Poonch Valley, and largest amongst these is the Kashmir Valley.In the lower elevation area, scrub forests and Himalayan subtropical pine forests are present.Encompassing the highest elevations, there is no vegetation, just rock and ice.The state is home to rivers such as Jhelum, Indus, Tawi, Ravi and Chenab.Jammu and Kashmir also have various Himalayan glaciers.Siachen Glacier is one of the longest glaciers in Jammu and Kashmir.
The climate of Jammu and Kashmir depends on area and altitude.The three regions:
JAMMU region is a sub-tropical place with hot summers and rainy seasons and cold winter.The temperature in summer reaches up to 40°C and this area have the high humidity in the rainy season.Only the mountain region in Jammu receives snowfall.
In the KASHMIR region the temperature in winters goes down to -15°C in the hilly areas and to -5°C in the plains.The average temperature in summer is 30°C in the plains.
LADAKH region gets the coldest winter among all regions of Jammu and Kashmir with temperature going down to -40°C but surprisingly the temperature in summers, however, soars to 45 degrees.
